| As we approach the 365th anniversary
of the arrival of our ancestors Antoine and Étienne Hébert
in Acadia, your Nova Scotia Cousins, although few in number, have been
busy organizing the HÉBERT FAMILY REUNION ASSOCIATION and are excited
to host our Congress Mondial Acadian 2004 HÉBERT FAMILY REUNION
in Amherst, Nova Scotia, on August 13-14,
2004.
Plans are to celebrate our Acadian
Heritage and the 400th anniversary of the founding of Acadia, at the beautiful
Amherst Regional High School.
A special bilingual Mass is planned
for near the site of the ancient Beaubassin Chapel of Sainte Anne, which
served the village from 1722-1750. This would be the first Mass celebrated
at this site since 1750; we hope to make this a special celebration for
our entire Acadian community.
Amherst
is located at the entrance to Nova Scotia within sight of Beaubassin, just
35 minutes from the Moncton airport and less than 50 minutes from Bouctouche,
Cocagne and Grande Digue, New Brunswick. Halifax is less than 2 hours
drive away and Grand Pré will be reached easily in 3 hours.
Amherst
will be the entry point for hundreds of thousands of Acadians returning
to their ancestral home celebrating its 400th anniversary.
The Beaubassin Region includes
the original locations of the villages of Minoudy, Riviere Hébert,
LaButte, LesPlanches, River Maccan, Rivere Nappan, and Veskok. All
of these were home to many of our Hébert pioneers and an escape
route to many more who fled to Ile St. Jean, Miramichi and Quebec in advance
of the British Troops. |
