PRESIDENT=S CORNER

Today, August 30, I was elected Chairman of your association.  I thank you for that honor and look forward to serving you and your families.
The coming year will be one of challenge and hard work by each of us.  To make certain that our Congrès Mondial Acadien-Louisiane 1999 B HÉBERT Family Reunion is a success, it will require continued enthusiasm from each of us.  You can help by making certain that each of your families B parents, children, cousins, and neighbors come to Abbeville in 1999.
On November 21 in Abbeville, we will host a mini reunion to present our plans for the August 6, 7, & 8, 1999 Reunion.  This would be a good time for you to include other members of your family.  Hopefully, it will encourage them to gain the enthusiasm that you have shown for the past ten months.  As soon as plans are complete, you will be hearing from me by mail.  Again thanks for the condfidence you have shown me.

The Good News

The Officers and Board have voted on the following items that should be good news to all:
1) Dues paid in 1998 will carry over to the reunion year - - - through August 31st.   Those of you who have not renewed your dues, the Family surely would appreciate it if you did.  Most of the funds will be used for the reunion.
2) We have contracted to rent Magdalen Place, a beautiful air conditioned building, located adjacent to the square.  It will be used as the Welcome Center.  We will locate registration, sales of memorabilia, genealogy, and much more.
3) The opening ceremonies have been moved to Magdalen Place on Friday, August 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
 
 

 
Le Coin Français

Une réunion de AL=Association des Hébert du Monde@ a eu lieu dimanche le 30 Août, 1998, à la Maison de Cour Municipale pour discuter les projects de l=année pour se préparer pour la Réunion des Hébert qui aura lieu à Abbeville le 6 et 7 Août, 1999.  Il y aura quatre réunions pour les membres de l=Association prevus de Novembre 1998 jusqu=a Mai 1999.  Aussi les comites vont se réunir fréquemment.  Pour maintenir l=interêt et l=enthusiasme pour la Réunion des Hébert en 1999, il y aura un mini-réunion le Samedi le 21 Novembre, 1998.  On n= a pas encour choisi définitivement le lieu, mais on laissera savoir aux membres de l=Association les détails avant la réunion.  Il y aura aussi une réunion des membres ce jour-là.
L=Association a décidé de faire parti de CAFA, la Confédération des Familles Acadiennes, qu a été formé en Mai et a pour but aider les familles qui sont en train de se préparer pour le Congrès Mondial en 1999.  Sheila Hébert Collins servira de déléguée aux réunion de CAFA.
L=Association a elu ses officiers pour l=année.  Ci-dessous sont les résultats:

A cause de la chaleur ici en Louisiane en Août, on a décidé de louer un endroit climatisé pour accueillir les gens qui viendront à la réunion en 1999.  On a l=intention de louer Centre Magdalene en face du square.  On espére aussi pouvoir tenir la cérémonie de fermeture pendant la messe de 5:30 le Samedi 7 Août.
Sheila H. Collins a rappelé aux membres de lui envoyer leurs recettes de plats favoris pour la collection de recettes avant le 1st Novembre, 1998, si possible.  Son adresse est 311 Second Street, Abbeville, LA 70510.
La cotisation pour les membres qui doit renouve pour cette année es $15.00 pour Famille et $10.00 pour une personne.  Ce prix sera valable aussi bien jusqu=à la Réunion de 1999.
Les projets pour la grande Réunion vont bon train.  Gardons notre enthousiasme et travaillon ensemble pour une Réunion des Hébert bien réussie en Août 1999.    

Hébert Family Mini-Cookbook

Sheila Hébert Collins is preparing a small cookbook (25-30 recipes) that she would like to have completed for the Mini Reunion on November 21, 19968.  She is asking members to enter their favorite family recipe for judging, so that the winners may be included in this special mini-cookbook.  Send info about the recipe and a short summary on the history of the recipe.  Include your name and address.
